Recycling and Donation

Lighten Up! is an Eco-Friendly company, so it is a pleasure to bring re-usable and recyclable items to the best collection sites.

The following are regular services provided at no additional charge:

Deliver clothes and household items to well-regarded charities, and return an itemized receipt. Knowing donations can immediately help someone else often gives my clients incentive to let their items go to new homes.

  • Deliver food, toiletries, bed linens, blankets, and cleaning items to homeless shelters and food pantries, as part of The Simple Gesture (Cool Green Bags) Program which was a winner of a 2019 Best of Reston Award.

  • Recycle items to avoid adding toxic items to landfills:

    • electronics

    • batteries

    • corks

    • eyeglasses

    • old tennis shoes

    • paper, plastics and glass (as allowed by the county)

  • Dispose of old and expired medications in medication disposal bins.

  • Shred your sensitive papers (you pay for the shredding but not for my time).
